AUSTIN, Texas – Current University of Virginia volunteer coach and former swimmer Ed Moses (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) set a world record in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:00.29 Wednesday night (March 28) at the Phillips 66 National Championships at the Jamail Texas Swimming Center.

Moses’ time of 1:00.29 bettered the former 100-meter breaststroke world record of 1:00.36 held by Russia’s Roman Sloudnov by seven one-hundredths of a second. It is the second consecutive year Moses has won the 100 breaststroke at the Phillips 66 National Championships. With the victory, Moses guaranteed himself a spot on the United State’s World Championships team, which will compete in Fukuoka, Japan in July. Moses earned a silver medal in the 100-meter breaststroke at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Virginia first-year Amy Baly (Atlanta, Ga./Marist School) competed in the 400-meter individual medley on Wednesday and posted a time of 4:53.88 to finish 13th in the prelims.

The Phillips 66 National Championships continue through Sunday, April 1 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin, Texas.
