Eliese Mitchell (Narvon, Pa./Garden Spot) smashed her own record in the hammer throw at the Duke Relays this weekend, passing her old record by almost three meters. Her throw of 55.50m (182′ 1″) was just shy of 10 feet longer than her old record of 52.54 (172′ 4″) and good enough for a sixth place finish in the event. Her teammate on the men’s side, Bill Johnston (Warwick, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) also fared well, just missing his own Cavalier record by 16 centimeters (7 inches) but taking third in the process. Brian Kollar (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) continued his winning ways this season, claiming his third consecutive javelin title with a toss of 71.28m (233′ 10″). His teammate John Welch (Upper St. Clair, Pa./Upper St. Clair) finished just behind him in second with a toss of 66.20m (217′ 2″).

The Cavalier women’s distance medley team also was a runner-up, finishing in 11:45.56. Kimberlee Turko (Edison, N.J./John P. Stevens) also placed for the Cavaliers, finishing eighth in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:04.33.

Kiamesha Otey (Quinton, Va./New Kent) won the 100m dash in a time of 11.64 and came back to take fourth in the 200m dash with a run of 24.05. Jarrett Hagwood (Martinsville, Va./Laurel) took 6th in the 110m hurdles with a race of 14.54.
