Princeton, N.J. – Virginia fourth-year women’s tennis player Kelly Weaver (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) received the 2001 ITA/Cissie Leary Award for Sportsmanship for the East Region. Weaver is now a finalist for the national award. The winner will be announced Sunday evening (May 20) in Stone Mountain, Ga.

The Cissie Leary Award for Sportsmanship goes to a woman who displays inspiring dedication and commitment to her team, which has enhanced her team’s performance and exemplified the spirit of college tennis. Weaver was the team captain of the 2000-2001 women’s tennis team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 1997-98 season. Weaver finished the season with a 21-11 overall singles record, including wins in the team’s Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament matches against North Carolina and Wake Forest. Weaver teamed with Jennifer Tuchband to record an 18-11 mark at #3 doubles.
