The Virginia Cavaliers tied the Florida Gators 1-1 on Sunday afternoon, closing their two-game road swing with a 1-0-1 record. The Cavaliers now sport an overall record of 3-1-1, 1-0 in the ACC, and return home to Klockner Stadium this Wednesday night to take on Liberty University at 5 p.m..

“I thought we played very well in stretches, and we certainly had our chances to win it,” head coach Steve Swanson said. “I’m proud of how our team fought. It’s definitely not the result we’re looking for, but I thought overall we played a good game. They’re a much bigger team than we are and very physical. Our team put up a hard fought battle, and there are a lot of positive things to take away from this.”

After a scoreless first period, Florida’s Andi Sellers scored on a shot from the right side, giving the Gators a 1-0 lead at the 54:01 mark. The game remained at 1-0 until Lori Lindsey scored her fourth goal of the year on a 16-yard volley, set up by Ashley Meeker. The game remained tied at 1-1 for the remainder of regulation, and through two overtime periods. Anne Abernethy made nine saves in goal for Virginia, while Lindsey led the Cavaliers with seven shots, followed by first-year Lindsay Gusick who had four.

In addition to their home game against Liberty this week, Virginia continues conference play this Saturday at 7 p.m. with a game at Clemson.
