Two of the Virginia women’s soccer players have garnered midweek honors as a result of helping the team to two key wins last week.

Senior co-captain Lori Lindsey was named to the Soccer Buzz Elite Eight for this past week. Lindsey scored a game-winning overtime goal on Oct. 4 to lift the Cavaliers over nationally-ranked Brigham Young. Lindsey scored two goals against the Cougars on two shots. This marks the second accolade this season for Lindsey, who was named to Soccer America’s Team of the Week on Sept. 4 after a two-goal performance in the opening 3-0 win of the season over Mississippi.

Also honored was Lindsay Gusick, named to Soccer America’s Team of the Week. Gusick scored a game-winner over William & Mary, in addition to scoring a game-tying goal in the victory over Brigham Young. She is the third Cavalier to receive such recognition the season. In addition to Lindsey on Sept. 4, Ashley Meeker was named to the team on Sept. 26. Gusick scored her sixth goal of the season, last night, in a 1-0 win over Maryland.

Lindsey leads the team with 15 points (7 G, 1 A) followed by Gusick (6 G, 1 A), Laura Gaworecki (2 G, 2 A) and Meeker (2 G, 2 A).

The Cavaliers return to action this Saturday night with a trip to in-state rival James Madison. Virginia is 14-1-2 all-time against the Dukes.
