CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia men’s and women’s swimming teams participated in a relay swim Thursday (October 11) to raise funds for the families of the victims of the September 11 attack on the Pentagon and World trade Center. The Cavaliers collectively swam a distance of 225 miles between all participating swimmers. The relay swim took approximately two hours to complete.
The Curl-Burke Swim Club, located in Northern Virginia, came up with the idea and challenged all swimming clubs in the country to a 206-mile relay swim. The 206 miles is the distance between the Pentagon and New York City with all funds raised from the event donated to the families of the victims and rescue workers of the September 11 tragedy.
