Charlottesville, Va. – Following a 2-0 victory this past Friday night over Wake Forest, the No. 8-ranked Virginia women’s soccer team clinched the No. 2 seed for the upcoming ACC Tournament, to be held this coming weekend in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Cavaliers’ first-round opponent will be Duke. The game will be played Thursday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.

Other first-round games include third-seeded Florida State vs. sixth-seeded Maryland in the first game on Thursday, at noon. Top-seeded North Carolina plays eighth-seeded North Carolina State at 5:30 p.m., followed by host Wake Forest and Clemson playing the 8 p.m. game. If the Cavaliers win Thursday afternoon, they face the winner of the Florida State-Maryland game on Friday night at 5:30 p.m.

UVa beat Duke in Durham, N.C., on Oct. 20 of this season, by a score of 2-1 in overtime, as Lindsay Guisick scored the game-winning goal ten minutes into the overtime period. The Cavaliers are 9-6-5 all-time against Duke, and have won the last three regular season meetings, while Duke won last season’s meeting in the ACC Tournament on penalty kicks.
