Charlottesville, Va. – After completing the regular season at 13-3-1, and going 1-0-1 in two games at the ACC Tournament, the UVa women’s soccer team has earned its 14th NCAA Tournament bid. Klockner Stadium will be host to the first and second rounds of this year’s tournament, as the Cavaliers host Liberty University. Also in the first round will be William & Mary taking on Wake Forest. Both first round games will be played on Fri., Nov. 17,with the two winners facing off on Sun., Nov. 19. Times have yet to be determined.

“We are definitely excited about hosting,” head coach Steve Swanson said. “There’s nothing like playing in front of the home crowd, let alone playing at home for an NCAA tournament game. We’re looking forward to an enthusiastic crowd this weekend.

The Cavaliers have played all three teams at home this season, and have defeated all three by a combined score of 10-0. On Sept. 26, Lindsay Gusick collected her first career hat trick and Tammy Westinghouse added three assists, highlighting a 7-0 victory over Liberty. They defeated William & Mary on Oct.2, 1-0 and defeated Wake Forest in the regular season finale on Nov. 2, 2-0.

Gusick scored a combined six goals in the three victories, including all three game-winners. Anne Abernethy and Ashley Mowery shared credit for the shutout-win over Liberty. Abernethy also shared a shutout with Jodi Clugston against William & Mary, while Clugston played the full 90 minutes in a 2-0 win over Wake Forest.

The Cavaliers are 1-0 all-time against Liberty, 6-2 all-time against Wake Forest and 9-9-1 all-time against William & Mary.
