CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams, under the direction of 24th-year head coach Mark Bernardino, will host nine other schools in the 2001 Cavalier Invitational which will take place Thursday, November 29 through Saturday, December 1 at the UVa Aquatic and Fitness Center. Preliminaries will begin each day at 10:00 a.m. and finals will commence at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The 11th-ranked Virginia men will host Central Connecticut, Columbia, UMBC, Villanova, Yale, West Chester and West Virginia in the three-day meet. A total of 21 men’s events will be contested. In addition to the 15th-ranked Cavalier women, Central Connecticut, Richmond, Texas A&M, UMBC, Yale, West Chester and West Virginia will compete in the 21-event invitational. Both UVa squads are the only teams competing that are ranked in the top 25 of the College Swimming Coaches Association of America Poll. The Texas A&M women are in the also receiving votes portion of the poll.

Admission to home Virginia swimming and diving meets is free of charge.
