ATHENS, Ga. – Third-year University of Virginia women’s diver Alison Sharp (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock) finished 11th in the three-meter diving competition at the Georgia Diving Invitational Saturday (January 5) at Gabrielsen Natatorium. In the men’s one-meter competition, second-year Pete Amstutz (St. Joseph, Mich./St. Joseph) was 14th and fourth-year Joe Piorkowski (Easton, Pa./Easton) placed 17th.

Sharp was 11th in the women’s three-meter diving with a score of 393.40 points. She tallied 400.10 points in finishing eighth in the preliminaries. Sharp also finished 12th on the one-meter board Friday. Second-year Katie Prior (Dallas, Texas/Logos Academy) finished 21st in the prelims with a score of 321.30, while fourth-year Nicole Triden (Deephaven, Minn./Minnetonka) was 22nd with 317.85 points.

In the men’s one-meter competition, Amstutz scored 242.85 points in the prelims to take 14th place, but did not advance to the 12-diver finals. Piorkowski was 17th with 229.15 points.

The Virginia men’s swimming and diving team returns to action on Friday (January 11) when it hosts fourth-ranked Tennessee at 2:00 p.m. at the UVa Aquatic and Fitness Center. The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams then host N.C. State on Saturday (January 12) at 1:00 p.m. at the AFC.
