The Virginia women’s basketball team fell at #6 Duke, 86-69, on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, the Blue Devils improved to 15-3 overall and a perfect 7-0 in the ACC. The Cavaliers stand 10-8 overall and 3-4 in the league.

“I really thought our team today fought as hard as it could,” said Virginia head coach Debbie Ryan. “Today we didn’t drop our heads or get discouraged. We got a lot of good, wide open shots that wedidn’t hit.”

Freshman Brandi Teamer (Joliet, Ill.) notched her ninth career double-double. Sophomore Anna Crosswhite (Castlecrag, Australia) came off the bench for a career-high 17 points, including a perfect 6-6 from the line. Senior Telisha Quarles (Louisa, Va.) added 16 points.

“I’m trying to do whatever it takes to win,” said Teamer who recorded her fifth straight double-double. “Our maturity is showing out there a lot lately.”

Four Duke players netted double figures led by Monique Curie’s 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Virginia hosts Florida State on Wednesday, Jan. 23. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. Charlottesville’s WINA Radio (1070 AM) will broadcast the game live.
