Keller converted the pass on the empty net to give Virginia a 17-8 lead with just over 15 minutes to play.

The Cavaliers went up by ten at 18-8 just 20 seconds later as Sambus won the draw and flipped the ball to Thalenberg, who passed the ball to Aumiller who in turn fed Appelt, who rolled around her defender and scored with 13:57 remaining in the half, sending the Hoos up 18-8. Appelt scored again just over three minutes later as she drove to the cage on a fast break.
