Two Divers To Represent Virginia At NCAA Zone B Qualifying Meet

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia third-year Alison Sharp (Newton, Pa./Council Rock) and second-year Pete Amstutz (St. Joseph, Mich./St. Joseph) will compete in the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships Friday and Saturday, March 15-16 at the University of Kentucky’s Lancaster Aquatic Center in Lexington, Ky. Sharp and Amstutz will compete in both the one and three-meter diving events.
The women’s one-meter diving competition begins at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, followed by the men’s three-meter competition at 2:30 p.m. On Saturday, the men’s one-meter and women’s three-meter competitions will be held simultaneously beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Sharp is making her third appearance at the NCAA Zone B Diving Regionals. Last year as a sophomore, Sharp was 29th on the one-meter board and 39th in the three-meter competition. As a freshman in 2000, Sharp was 28th on the one-meter board and 33rd in the three-meter competition. At the 2002 ACC Championships, Sharp scored 258.85 points to finish sixth on the one-meter board and was 12th in the three-meter competition with 370.65 points.
Amstutz is making his first appearance at the NCAA Zone B Regionals. Amstutz earned All-ACC honors with a second-place performance on the one-meter board at the 20002 ACC Championships. He scored 303.30 points in placing second. Amstutz was also eighth on the three-meter board at ACCs with 444.30 points.
The meet will feature divers from 18 NCAA institutions. The 12 men and 13 women with the best scores will advance to the NCAA Championships.
