ROSWELL, Ga. – The University of Virginia men’s golf team concluded its season with a tie for 18th place at the 2002 NCAA East Regional at the Ansley Golf Club on Saturday.

The ACC teams dominated the top spots. Clemson and host Georgia Tech, ranked No. 1 nationally, tied for first place with a 876 (+12). North Carolina followed by one stroke to take third with a 877 (+13). The Cavaliers tied with Duke and Penn State as each team carded a 922 (+58).

Individually, Clemson’s D.J. Trahan captured medalist honors with a six-under 210 to lead the field of 141 competitors. UNC’s Bob Cherry was second with a 213 (-3), while Georgia Southern’s Tyler McKeever and Vanderbilt’s Brandt Snedeker tied for third with a 214 (-2).

The top 10 teams and top two individuals (not on those teams) advance to the NCAA Championship on May 29 through June 1 at Ohio State.

UVa junior Justin Goodhue (Glastonbury, Conn.) tied for 18th with a 221 (+5). Senior Steve Marino (Fairfax, Va.) concluded his collegiate career with a tie for 26th place at 223 (+7). Junior Thomas Lee (Guttenburg, N.J.) tied for 95th with a 236(+20). Senior Shivin Kwatra (New Delhi, India) was 123rd with a 243 (+27), while sophomore Jeremy Luce (Austin, Texas) followed with a 246 (+30).
