The tenth ranked Cavaliers return home this weekend as they host the Virginia Soccer Classic. They are coming off a challenging weekend at the UCLA Women’s Cup where they went 0-1-1 in a pair of overtime contests. Friday’s opponent, West Virginia, is making their second staright appearance at the Virginia Soccer Classic. They enter the game with a 3-1 overall record, already 1-0 in Big East play. The Mountaineers are No. 22 in the Soccer America poll and 19 in the Soccer Buzz poll. Sunday’s opponent, Dartmouth, was ranked earlier this season, but split their first two games of the season.

Cavalier-Mountaineer Series: Tonight is the second ever meeting between the schools. Virginia won the first meeting 2-1 at last year’s Virginia Soccer Classic.

Cavalier-Big Green Series: Sunday marks the first ever meeting between Virginia and Dartmouth in women’s soccer.

Tournament History: The Cavaliers are hosting their 15th in-season tournament this weekend. The event (Virginia Soccer Classic 2001-02, Coca-Cola Classic 1997-2000, Virginia Invitational 1995-96, Lanzera Invitational 1992-94, Diadora Classic 1987-90) was been won by the Cavaliers seven times as Virginia has a 20-6-2 all-time record in the event. However, Virginia is looking for their first title in the tournament since 1999.

In the Polls: The Cavaliers are currently ranked No. 10 in the NSCAA/adidas coaches poll. Virginia placed No. 8 in this week’s Soccer America, Soccer Buzz, and Soccer Times polls.

Kl?ck-work at Home: Last season the Cavaliers went 11-2 at Kl?ckner Stadium. The 11 home wins in a season set a new school record. The Cavaliers are 1-0 at home in 2002.
