Women's Basketball Falls to Melbourne in Exhibition Action, 61-56

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia fell to Melbourne (Australia), 61-56 in exhibition action on Thursday evening at University Hall.
“I would characterize this game as uncharacteristic of this team,” said UVa head coach Debbie Ryan. “They did not play to their potential.”
Senior Liz Sahin (Hatay, Turkey), junior Anna Prillaman (Midlothian, Va.), and junior Safiya Grant-Fairley (Bronx, N.Y.) paced the Cavs with 10 points each. Sophomore Brandi Teamer (Joliet, Ill.), who sat out the first half, added nine second-half points.
Kelly Lemezs led the Australians with 23 points, including 8-of-10 from the charity stripe. Nicky Simpson added 10 points off the bench.
Virginia travels to No. 23 Old Dominion for its first game of regular-season on Friday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. The contest will open the Lady Monarchs? new arena- the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
Virginia?s home opener is Sunday, Nov. 24 against St. Joseph?s at 2 p.m. in University Hall.
Charlottesville?s WINA Radio (1070 AM) will broadcast each UVa game live with Jed Williams and Myron Ripley calling the action.
