WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The University of Virginia men’s tennis team continued play Saturday at the ACC Indoor Championships as first-year Doug Stewart (Malibu, Calif.) advanced to the semifinals of singles play. Seven of the conference’s teams are in attendance at the three-day event.

Stewart won a pair of matches Saturday to reach the semifinals of the 64-player draw. The tournament’s No. 3 seed, Stewart posted a three-set win over Joao Menano of Georgia Tech in the round of 16 before a straight set win over Florida State’s Chip Webb in the quarterfinals. Second year Stephen Nolen (Aurora, Colo.) fell in the round of 16 in the only other Cavalier in singles action on Saturday.

In doubles action, the team of Stephen Rozek (Chadron, Ohio) and Dillon Walker (Dallas, Texas) fell Saturday in the quarterfinals of the 32-team draw.

The tournament concludes Sunday in Winston-Salem. Stewart plays No. 1 seeded David Loewenthal of Wake Forest in Sunday’s semifinal round. The Cavaliers open their home dual match season on January 25 as they host Richmond and George Washington at the Boar’s Head Sports Club.
