Men's Golf Stands 17th at P.R. Classic after Day 2

PALMER, Puerto Rico – After the second day of action, the Virginia men’s golf team continues to stand 17th at the 2003 Puerto Rico Classic.
The No. 14 NC State Wolfpack hold a three-stroke lead for first place with a two-under 574. Eighth-ranked Minnesota follows with a 577 (+1), while Oklahoma State is third with a 580 (+4). The Cavaliers shot a 313 on the day, 12 strokes better than their first round performance, for a 638 (+62) overall.
Individually, NC State players hold the top three spots. Fernando Machareffe shot a three-under 69 for the second straight day for a 138 (-6). Teammate Justin Walters fired two rounds of two-under 70 for a 140 (-4), while Stephen Lewton follows by a stroke with a 141 (-3).
Freshman Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.) and junior Jeremy Luce (Austin, Texas) are tied as the Cavalier leaders with a 155 (+11) each. Luce fired a team-best 73 in the second round. Senior Justin Goodhue (Glastonbury, Conn.) follows with a 158 (+14), while freshman Eamonn McLoughlin (Amityville, N.Y.) has a 170 (+26). Senior Thomas Lee (Gluttenburg, N.J.) finished with a 190 (+46).
The Cavaliers conclude tourney play on Tuesday, Feb. 25 with the third round of the Puerto Rico Classic. Tee times begin at 8 a.m.
