Women's Golf in 17th at Mercedes Benz Championship

KNOXVILLE, TN – The Virginia women’s golf team shot a 308 (+20) to remain in 17th place at 635 (+59) after the second round of the Mercedes Benz Intercollegiate.
Freshman Rachel Smith (Powell, Tenn.) and freshman Leah Wigger (Louisville, Ky.) shot identical scores in the first two rounds (79-75) to tie for 42nd place at 154 (+10). Freshman Sally Shonk (Nobelsville, Ind.) shot a 77 (+5) to give her a total of 156 (+12) and a tie for 57th. Freshman Lindsay Robinson (Huntington, W.V.) added an 81 (+9), which put her in 86th place at 171 (+27). Freshman Kira Mayo (Aventura, Fla.) rounded out the scoring with an 86 (+14) and a total score of 176 (+32), which left her in 87th place.
Ohio State jumped into the lead, shooting 292 (+4) to make its total 588 (+12). Oklahoma State is in second place at 589 (+13) after a 298 (+10) in the second round. Georgia shot 292 (+4) to grab third with a 591 (+15). Ohio State’s Allison Hanna is the individual leader at 142 (-2) after firing a 69 (-3). Onnarin Sattayabanphot of Purdue is in second at 143 (-1). Georgia’s Lisa Tyler and Oklahoma State’s Mallory Underwood are tied for third at 144 (E).
Final round action will begin Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Fox Den Country Club.
