CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia wrestling team will begin the regular season portion of its 2003-04 schedule this weekend at the Michigan State Open in East Lansing, Michigan. The event will take place on November 8-9 at MSU’s Jenison Field House on the campus of Michigan State University.

The Cavaliers are coming off the heels of a very successful 2002-03 campaign where they finished 12-5 overall, 4-0 in the ACC season. Last year, UVa racked-up its most overall win and finished undefeated in the conference for the first time since 1975. Virginia closed out the 2002-03 season by winning 12 of its final 14 dual matches, including eight consecutive wins to finish the year.

UVa head coach Lenny Bernstein (78-69-2, 24-18-0 ACC) begins his 11th season as the head coach at Virginia and fields one of his most talented squads this season. The Cavaliers return a solid core of letterwinners from last season including the likes of Tim Foley, Brian Sticca, Zach Freday, Jim Hartey, Byron Dunlap, Paul Bjorlo, Paul Dunstan and Scott Mania, and also received a major boost with the addition of All-American transfer Scott Moore from Penn State.

Following Virginia’s outing at the Michigan State Open, the Cavaliers will travel to Ithaca, N.Y. to compete in Cornell’s Bod Bar Invitational on November 22nd.
