Virginia's #1 Scott Moore Suffers First Loss Of The Season, #11 Tim Foley Bounces Back At 2004 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships

ST. LOUIS, Missouri – University of Virginia wrestlers Scott Moore (Franklin, Pa./Franklin Academy) and Tim Foley (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) continued their run for All-American status in the 2004 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships at the Savvis Center. The two wrestlers have qualified to become just the eighth and ninth ever All-American wrestlers from UVa with their performances in the event. The duo are the first Cavaliers to gain such an honor at UVa since Steve Garland accomplished the feat with a national runner-up finish at 125-pounds back in 2000.

Moore, ranked #1 in the country and the top seed at 141-pounds, lost for the first time all season after Iowa’s Cliff Moore, the #5 seed at 141, recorded a 14-2 major decision in the 141-pound semifinals. S. Moore’s loss puts a blemish on his previous perfect mark of 49-0 overall and makes him 49-1 (3-1 at Nationals) on the year. Moore will now face #2 seeded Nate Gallick from Iowa State in a match for a chance to compete for a third place finish.

Foley, ranked #11 in the nation and seeded #11 at 165-pounds, now stands 4-2 at Nationals and is wrestling in the 165-pound consolation bracket. Foley’s overall record is now 38-6 on the season after defeating #5 seeded Pat Owen of Michigan by the score of 8-5 before losing a hard-fought match to Central Michigan’s #4 seeded David Bolyard by the score of 6-4 in overtime. Foley will now face unseeded Jacob Klein of Nebraska in the seventh/eighth place match.

Moore and Foley will return to action in the 2004 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships on Saturday, March 20th in the final day of the event.
