This weekend, the Virginia Cavaliers will look to better last week’s performances as they head to the Raleigh Relays. Held at N.C. State’s track, Raleigh, NC, this meet will be the second outdoor meet of the season.

On the women’s side, last week’s performances at Charlotte showed that the Cavaliers are looking to showcase their talent. The women are led by last week’s winner of the 400m hurdles (1:00.19) and UVA’s #7 all-time performer in that event, Erin Crawford, who will look to repeat her performance. Cheryl Carr, who won last week’s 3000m with a time of 10:07.04, will now switch gears and run the 5000m along with teammates Kelly Behan and Laura Hodges, who also ran the 3000m last week. Coming off of a first place in last week’s1500m (4:30.13) and fourth place in the 800m (2:14.64), Sharon O’Connor will compete in the 800m with teammate Huma Husain. Caroline Harvey will look to repeat placing in the 100m and try to place in the long jump as well. Other performers include Anne Bobiak and Sarah Convery in the javelin, in which both placed in last week’s competition. Ashley Gore will also join two teammates in the 800m, and will also run the 400m with Morgan Cephas. Shannon Hawrylo and Emily Hampson will enjoy each other’s company in the 1500m, and so shall Melanie Matthews and Janine Ricci in the 3000m steeplechase. Janine Holman and Rachel Marks will double up on the 100m hurdles and 400m hurldles, and Marks will also add the high jump to her list, along with Meggie Scheulke. Just like last week, Laurent Taggart, Kathryn Pettine, and Alisa La Roche will compete in the pole vault. Tiffany Roberts will run the 100m dash and Tomika Ferguson will compete in the triple jump.

Shifting gears to the men’s side, the Cavalier’s will be led by McGavock Dunbar, coming off of a third place victory in last week’s 1500m run with a time of 3:53.47. Dunbar will run the 800m this weekend with Matt Antunes, who received a sixth place finish in last week’s 800m. Herb Reid will focus on the 110m hurdles and the 400m hurdles, looking to improve last week’s performances. Joining Reid in the 110m hurdles will be Gemayel Hazard, Isi Azeke, Devin Canaday, David Sullivan and Scott Robinson. Hazard and Azeke will also add the long jump. Canaday will also compete in the long jump and the 400m hurdles. Sullivan will also add the high jump with teammate Chris Clementson. Stephen Hiltner will also join Reid and Canaday in the 400m hurdles. Kellen Blassingame and Kevin Carson and Shadion Buckley will be featured in the 100m dash. Buckley will also try his luck at the long jump. On the distance side, Will Christian will look to place high in the 5000m. Christian will be joined with Matt Gutridge. Ryan Neuhart and Grady Sullivan will compete in the 3000m steeplechase and Alex Tatu and Alec Lorenzoni will compete in the 1500m. In the pole vault field will be Greg Blair while Walker Anderson, who placed sixth last week in the hammer throw and shot put, will compete in the discus throw, hammer throw, and the shot put.
