CHARLOTTESVILLE – The University of Virginia women’s rowing team won every competition against Stanford, Tennessee and Louisville on Saturday (March 27). The Cavalier’s first and second varsity eight boats defeated Stanford in the Windermere Collegiate Crew Classic, a Henley-style regatta held in Redwood City, Calif. Across the country, in Knoxville, Tennessee, the Cavalier’s varsity four and novice eight boats were victorious over competition from Tennessee and Louisville.

Virginia’s first varsity eight boat crossed the finish line in 6:37.32, defeating Stanford (6:46.30) by 8.98 seconds. Just over an hour later, the Cavalier’s second varsity eight boat surpassed the Cardinal competition with a time of 6:38.99. Stanford completed the race in 6:59.89. The regatta was held on Redwood Shores.

Meanwhile, in the varsity four race in Knoxville, Tennessee, Virginia’s boat (8:09.29) was victorious over the crew from Tennessee (8:28.43). In the second varsity four competition, the Virginia “A” boat placed first, with a time of 8:16.22. The Tennessee boat landed in second place (8:25.67), and the Virginia “B” crew garnered a third place finish (8:50.50).

The Cavaliers were also first in their second novice eight race (8:06.70), defeating both Tennessee (8:29.90) and Louisville (8:59.41). The results were similar for the novice eight competition, with Virginia winning again (7:28.03) against Tennessee (7:28.69) and Louisville (8:01.49). The races were held on Fort Loudoun Lake, in Knoxville, Tennessee.

The Cavalier women compete in the second and final day of the Windermere Collegiate Crew Classic on Sunday (March 28). Virginia’s first and second varsity eight boats are scheduled to race against crews from the University of California.
