CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia softball team hosts Atlantic Coast Conference rival Florida State in a doubleheader Saturday (April 17) beginning at noon at The Park. The Seminoles have won 12 consecutive games and are currently ranked second in the nation in the USAToday/NFCA Top 25 Poll. Admission to the doubleheader is free of charge.

The Cavaliers, under the direction of seventh-year head coach Cheryl Sprangel, stand at 29-22 on the season and are 1-3 in the conference. Florida State is an impressive 45-4 overall and 2-0 in the league.

Florida State leads the all-time series with UVa 48-13 and has won 12 consecutive games in the series. The Seminoles won all four meetings between the two teams last season, including the championship game of the ACC Tournament.

First-year second baseman Elea Crockett (Tucson, Ariz./University) leads the Cavaliers with a .363 (41-113) batting average, while second-year second/third baseman Sara Larquier (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs) is hitting .346 (53-153) with a team-high 32 RBI. Larquier also leads the team with 21 extra-base hits. Fourth-year first baseman Hannah Owings (Issaquah, Wash./Liberty) is hitting a career-best .324 (46-142) with 26 RBI. Fourth-year shortstop Heather Field (Lincoln, Calif./Lincoln) is 47-146 for a .322 batting average and has driven in 28 runs. Field leads the team with 41 runs scored and 42 walks. She is also tied with Owings for the team lead with seven home runs.
