Virginia Takes Eighth at ACC Championship

NEW LONDON, N.C. – The Virginia men’s golf team shot a 296 in the final round of the ACC Championship on Sunday. The Cavaliers’ three-day total of 882 (+18) gave them an eighth place finish.
Clemson hung on to take the title, shooting 278 (-10) in the final round to give the Tigers a total of 837 (-27). Wake Forest moved up to second at 845 (-19) with a 276 (-12) in the final round, while Georgia Tech’s 274 (-14) bumped them into third at 838 (-16).
Wake Forest’s Sean Moore shot a 68 (-4) to grab medallist honors at 205 (-11). Clemson’s Jack Ferguson finished in second at 206 (-10). Clemson’s Matt Hendrix and Georgia Tech’s Nicholas Thompson tied for third at 208 (-8).
Cavalier junior Kevin O’Connell (Potomac, Md.) shot a 73 (+1) to finish in a tie for 25th at 219 (+3). Sophomore Eamonn McLoughlin (Amityville, N.Y.) finished one stroke behind in a tie for 29th at 220 (+4) after a 74 (+2) in the final round. Freshman Daniel McGurk (Woodlands, Texas) finished another stroke back at 221 (+5), as his final-round 74 put him in a tie for 32nd. Senior Jeremy Luce (Austin, Texas) carded an 81 (+9) to finish in 41st at 230 (+14). Sophomore Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.) shot a 75 (+3), giving him a total of 232 (+16) and a tie for 42nd.
The Cavaliers will host the Andrea Brotto Cavalier Classic April 23-24 at Birdwood Golf Course in Charlottesville, Va.
