CHARLOTTESVILLE – – The Virginia women’s soccer team has announced its 2004 schedule which features 11 home dates at Kl?ckner Stadium. This year’s slate includes nine opponents that played in last season’s NCAA Tournament, including three of the four College Cup participants.

Cavalier fans will get to see both new ACC programs, Miami and Virginia Tech, visit Charlottesville along with traditional conference rivals Duke, Clemson, and NC State. The Cavaliers will also visit Florida State, Wake Forest, Maryland, and North Carolina.

“Traditionally we have always played a very competitive schedule and this year is no different,” says head coach Steve Swanson. “The ACC will be even more competitive this year with the addition of Virginia Tech and Miami. We are excited about starting another strong rivalry with Tech, which should be exciting for all Virginia fans.”

The non-conference schedule will be competitive as well. The highlight of the home non-conference schedule is visits from UCLA and South Carolina in the Virginia Nike Soccer Classic. The Cavaliers will also host East Carolina in the season opener on August 27 along with in-state foes Liberty, Richmond and James Madison later in the season. The Cavaliers will also visit regional rival West Virginia and will play in-state foes William & Mary and George Mason at the William & Mary Nike Tribe Invitational.

“Our non-conference schedule is once again challenging highlighted by our Nike Classic where we will face both UCLA and South Carolina,” adds Swanson. “When you put those games together with always competitive matches with teams such as William and Mary, West Virginia, Richmond, James Madison, and George Mason we will be tested throughout the regular season. We are excited because with this schedule we will know where we are come November, which is extremely important.”
