CHARLOTTESVILLE – Two Cavaliers were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District first team this week. Fourth-year defenders Gillian Hatch (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) and Jessica Trainor (Sparta, N.J.) were named to the squad and are now on the ballot for Academic All-American honors.

Both players have been key players for a Cavalier defense that has been one of the nation’s best this season. Virginia has allowed just 8 goals this season and has posted a school record 13 shutouts. On average, the Cavalier defense has allowed just 4.4 shots per game this season.

Hatch was selected to the All-District first team for the second consecutive year. In addition to her defensive play, she has contributed two goals and three assists offensively while playing every minute of the season.

Trainor was honored for the second time, after being named to the All-District second team last year. This season she has one assist from her outside defender position, where she has started every game.

The CoSIDA Academic All-American teams will be announced later this month. To be eligible for selection, a player must contribute significantly on the field while having at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA in the classroom.
