Virginia Falls at #8/4 North Carolina 89-60

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.- The University of Virginia women’s basketball team suffered its second defeat to No. 8/4 North Carolina on Thursday.
The Cavaliers fell to 18-9 overall and 7-6 in the league, while the Tar Heels improved to 23-3 overall and 11-2 in the league.
“They were just so physical with us tonight, and we did not adjust to it,” said coach Debbie Ryan. “We hung in there a little while. They played great and we didn’t.”
In the first half, UVa scored the first bucket and never lead again as Carolina utilized a 15-2 run to go ahead 22-9. The Tar Heels lead at intermission by 18 points, 37-19.
In the second half, UNC continued to build upon its lead, going ahead by as many as 34 points.
Three Tar Heel players netted double figures, led by Ivory Latta’s 19 points.
Overall UVa out rebounded UNC, 46-43.
Virginia closes out the regular season at home on Sunday, February 27 with Wake Forest. Tip-off is set for 2p.m. The Senior Class will be honored in a pregame ceremony, beginning at 1:45 p.m.
