Virginia Softball Heads To Hawaii For Spring Break

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia softball team will spend its 2005 Spring Break in Hawaii, marking the team’s first trip outside the continental United States in program history. The Cavaliers leave for Hawaii on Friday, March 4 and could play as many as eight games from March 8-12 in Honolulu.
Virginia will play a doubleheader against the University of Hawaii on Tuesday, March 8 at 11:00 p.m. (6:00 p.m. Hawaiian Time) at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. The Cavaliers then participate in the Hawaiian Airlines Spring Fling Tournament March 9-12 along with Campbell, Nevada, Notre Dame and host Hawaii. UVa opens the tournament on March 9 against Campbell at 8:00 p.m. (3:00 p.m. HT). The Cavaliers play Notre Dame and Nevada on March 10 at 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. (noon and 2:00 p.m. HT), respectively. Virginia closes out round-robin play on March 11 with a midnight (7:00 p.m. HT) contest against Hawaii. Bracket play for the tournament will be held on March 12.
The team will have a chance to do some sightseeing before beginning the business part of its trip on March 8. A snorkeling outing and a luau are planned for Saturday (March 5) and a tour of Pearl Harbor is scheduled for Sunday (March 6).

The Cavaliers have played in three tournaments in 2005 and stand at 5-10 on the season.
