Virginia Places Fourth At 2005 ACC Wrestling Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Virginia wrestling team finished fourth with 53 points at the 2005 Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestling Championships in the Mat Jam event at Fleming Gymnasium on the campus of the University of North Carolina Greensboro. The Cavaliers’ Paul Bjorlo won the 157-pound ACC title by defeating N.C. State’s Kody Hamrah 10-5 and his teammates Will Durkee and Rocco Caponi finished runner-up at 165 and 174-pounds, respectively.

By claiming the 157-pound ACC title, Bjorlo has automatically qualified to compete in the 2005 NCAA Championships on March 17-19 in Saint Louis, Missouri. He will be joined at Nationals by Caponi who received one of the five at-large bids to Nationals awarded by the ACC determined by the conference coaches.

North Carolina won the 2005 ACC Championships by recording 76 points. UNC was followed by Virginia Tech in second with 66.5 points, N.C. State in third with 56.5 points and UVa in fourth with 53 points. Duke placed fifth with 47.5 points and Maryland rounded out the team standings in sixth place with 21 points.
