Virginia’s Kim Connors and Nikki Lieb were both honored for their play last week as the Cavaliers opened the 2005 campaign with a win at Syracuse. Connors was recognized by insidelacrosse.com while Lieb was named to the Honor Roll by womenslacrosse.com.
Connors and Lieb both scored a goal in the win over Syracuse, but they were more integral to a defense that did not give up a single 8-meter free position attempt to the Orange, tying a national record. The vaunted Virginia defense has surrendered only one major foul inside the arc in two games against two top-12 teams after the 15-8 win over #6 Maryland.
The Cavaliers will take on Penn State at Klockner Stadium on Friday, March 11. Game time against the Nittany Lions is 7:00. Lieb will face her sister Jessi, a freshman on State’s team.
The Penn State game is part of US Lacrosse weekend for Virginia lacrosse, as the women also play Richmond on Sunday, a day after the men take on Princeton at 7:00 on Saturday night. Tickets are $3 for US Lacrosse members for the Saturday and Sunday games. The Charlottesville Chapter of US Lacrosse is hosting a gathering on Saturday night before the men’s game against Princeton in the University Hall Parking Lot.
