NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 17 seed Virginia men’s golf team will have to wait another to see where it stands after the first round at the 2005 NCAA East Regional on Thursday.

Play was stopped in the late afternoon for two hours as thunderstorms swept through the area. After resuming, action was halted due to darkness. Play will resume at 7 a.m. CDT on Friday, May 20. Second round tee times will remain the same.

The Cavaliers, making their 18th NCAA championship appearance, fired a 290 (+6), paced by junior Brad Tilley’s (Chappaqua, N.Y.) round of one-under 70.

“Brad played really well,” UVa head coach Bowen Sargent said. “He had a solid day from start to finish.”

Senior Kevin O’Connell (Potomac, Md.) followed with a 72 (+1). Sophomore Daniel McGurk (Woodlands, Texas) and junior Carter Henderson (Nashville, Tenn.) carded a 74 (+3) each. Freshman Greg Carlin (Kensington, Md.) rounded out the UVa scoring with a 79 (+8).

“Kevin was solid as well,” Sargent added. “All in all, it was a solid day, nothing flashy. Hopefully it’s enough to push us forward.”

Second round action at the NCAA East Regional tees off at the par 71 Golf Club of Tennessee. UVa’s first tee time is set for 11:51 a.m. CDT.
