Tilley Wins First Round of Match Play at U.S. Amateur

ARDMORE, Pa. – Virginia senior Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.) beat Jon-Michael Socaris (USA) in 19 holes during the first round of match play at the 2005 U.S. Amateur, held at the Merion Golf Club on Wednesday.

Tilley advances to another match on Thursday, Aug. 25 with Korey Mahoney (USA) at 8:50 a.m. The winner will also play at 1:55 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.

Mahoney ousted Tilley’s teammate- senior Carter Henderson (Nashville, Tenn.)- in first round action, 5 and 4.

Match play at the U.S. Amateur continues through Sunday, August 28 at the historic Merion Golf Club in suburban Philadelphia.
