CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia women’s soccer defender Becky Sauerbrunn (St. Louis, Mo.) was named to Soccer America’s Team of the Week for the opening week of the season. Sauerbrunn was one of two defenders named to the 11-player team.

Sauerbrunn played every minute as the Cavalier defense posted a pair of shutouts in the first two games of the season. The Cavaliers allowed no shots in a 6-0 win over Rhode Island on Friday and allowed just four shots in a 1-0 win over then-No. 15 West Virginia on Sunday. The recognition is the first career Soccer America Team of the Week accolade for Sauerbrunn.

The No. 5 Cavaliers return to action on Wednesday, August 31 when they visit James Madison.
