Becky Sauerbrunn Named to Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week

CHARLOTTTESVILLE – Virginia women’s soccer defender Becky Sauerbrunn (St. Louis, Mo.) was named to the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week for the opening week of the season. Sauerbrunn was one of three defenders named to the 12-player team.

Sauerbrunn, who was also honored with Team of the Week accolades by Soccer America this week, played every minute as the Cavalier defense posted a pair of shutouts in the first two games of the season. The Cavaliers allowed no shots in a 6-0 win over Rhode Island on Friday and allowed just four shots in a 1-0 win over then-No. 15 West Virginia on Sunday. Sauerbrunn also earned Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week honors during her freshman year in 2003.

The No. 5 Cavaliers return to action on Wednesday, August 31 when they visit James Madison.
