GREENSBORO, N.C. – – Nick Smith went 1-1 and the Virginia Wrestling Team finished 18th to wrap up competition at the 2005 Southern Scuffle Friday. Virginia had two wrestlers advance to the quarterfinals, before falling into the consolation bracket.

Smith defeated Edinboro’s Jeremy Mosley, 4-1, before Oregon State’s Ty Watterson pinned him at 2:58. Minnesota captured the title with a total of 192 points. Missouri, Cornell, Edinboro and Ohio State rounded out the top five.

North Carolina was the only Atlantic Coast Conference team to finish in top 10. NC State tied for 11th followed by Virgina Tech (17th), Maryland (20th) and Duke (19th).

Virginia returns to action next Wednesday when the Cavaliers take VMI in the Battle on the Beltway at Robinson High School in Fairfax, Va. The meet was originally scheduled for 7:30 p.m., but will now start at 6 p.m.
