College Soccer News Preseason Poll
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men’s soccer team is ranked No. 6 in the College Soccer News Preseason Top-30 poll, one of seven ACC teams ranked in the poll while the Cavalier recruiting class is also rated No. 8 by CSN. The Cavaliers return 10 of their 11 starters from a 2005 team that finished second in the Atlantic Coast Conference and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament.

The squad finished the 2005 season 12-5-3 overall and 6-2 in the ACC. Virginia brings in the No. 8 recruiting class as rated by College Soccer News. Virginia will be led by All-ACC First team selection and Freshman All-American forward Yannick Reyering along with All-ACC second team selections Adam Cristman and Nico Colaluca. Goalkeeper Ryan Burke is in his fourth season as a starter in goal.

Virginia welcomes two NSCAA All-Americans and Parade All-Americans in midfielder Jonathan Villanueva (Grand Prairie, Texas) and forward Matt Mitchell (Tariffville, Conn.) highlighting a classed ranked eighth. They will be joined by forward Chase Neinken (Roswell, Ga.), goalkeeper Jay Tison (Athens, Ga.), forward/midfielder Xavier Rock (Upper Marlboro, Md.), forward/midfielder Ross LaBauex (Chicago, Ill.), midfielder/forward Neil Barlow (Herndon, Va.) and midfielder/defender Karter Smith (Lookout Mountain, Ga.).

The Cavaliers open their season with two exhibition games. UVa will face Georgetown at 7 p.m. on Wed. Aug. 16 before hosting VCU on Sat. Aug. 19. Virginia will open the regular season at home against Davidson on Fri., Aug. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the second game of the Virginia Soccer Classic.
