CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its 2006 preseason women’s soccer poll Wednesday, as voted upon by the league’s coaches. Virginia was third in the voting, behind North Carolina and Florida State.

The Cavaliers, who were the 2005 ACC runner-up, garnered 97 points. It is the sixth consecutive year that Virginia has been in the top three of the poll.

Virginia returns 19 letterwinners from the 2005 team that finished with a 18-6-1 record. 2005 ACC Freshman of the Year Jess Rostedt (Kent, Ohio) and All-ACC players Shannon Foley (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) and Becky Sauerbrunn (St. Louis, Mo.) are among the veterans on the 2006 team.

The Cavaliers open the 2006 season on Friday, August 25 as they host Syracuse at Klockner Stadium.
