MOSCOW, Russia – Virginia women’s soccer sophomore forward Jess Rostedt (Kent, Ohio) scored the lone goal of the United States’ 1-0 win over France Thursday at the U-20 Women’s World Championship. With the win, the Americans won Group D with a perfect 3-0 record.

Rostedt entered the game as a substitute at halftime and scored the game’s only goal in the 61st minute on an assist by UCLA midfielder Tina DiMartino. The goal was Rostedt’s second of the tournament, giving her the team lead in goals through the three group stage games of the tournament.

Also a part of the American victory was Cavalier defender Nikki Krzysik (Clifton, N.J.), who played all 90 minutes of the win.

The United States team will play Germany in the quarterfinals on Sunday. The tournament continues in Russia for the next into next week and will conclude on September 3 with the final.
