Jonesborough, TN – Playing its best single round of the year, the Virginia men’s golf team finished eighth at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges. Virginia shot 1-under 287 Sunday to finish at 27-over 891. Tennessee claimed the championship by finishing at 5-over 869. East Tennessee State was second at 870.

Virginia sophomore Conrad Von Borsig equaled his best single-round score with a 4-under 68 to lead the Cavaliers during the final round. Von Borsig placed 13th at 220, his best showing as a collegiate. It marks the second time this year he has led UVa in scoring. He opened the tournament with a 78 in the first round and shot 74 in Saturday’s afternoon round.

Von Borsig was not the only Cavalier to post career-best numbers during the tournament. Greg Carlin placed 21st at 6-over 222. That was his best 54-hole score during his UVa career. He carded a 71 in the second round to equal his best 18-hole effort.

Eamonn McLoughlin and Andrea Signor both shot 228 to finish 54th. McLoughlin shot 74 during the final round and Signor had a 76. Daniel Kefale aided UVa’s final round score by posting a 2-under 70 Sunday. He was 63rd overall after starting with rounds of 78 and 83.

East Tennessee State’s Rhys Davies took medalist honors at 5-under 211. Philip Pettitt of Tennessee was second at 214.

The Cavaliers 1-under 287 during the final round was their best 18-hole score in their last eight tournaments, dating back to last year’s Hootie at Bulls Bay when UVa carded a 281 during the second round. Last year UVa placed 14 of 15 teams at The Ridges.

Virginia will wrap up its fall season Oct. 21-23 when they play at the Mason Rudolph Invitational in Nashville.
