Virginia field hockey student-athlete Inge Kaars Sijpesteijn was named to the weekly honor roll by womensfieldhockey.com for her performance last week in leading the Cavaliers to their 3-2 extra time triumph over regional opponent James Madison. Kaars Sijpesteijn, Virginia’s center back, was instrumental in the defense, holding the Dukes below their scoring average. She also was a major contributor to the Virginia offense, notching an assist on the first goal and then converting the penalty in overtime to catapult Virginia (10-4, 6-1 South) to the win.

Kaars Sijpesteijn and her teammates return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 17 as they host in-state opponent Longwood, who is celebrating their 80th year of field hockey in 2006. Virginia and Longwood have met 15 times since 1975, including in each of the last three years. Game time against the Lancers is 6:00 at the University Hall Turf Field.
