Parking Map

Charlottesville, VA — Because this week’s Thursday night home football game will occur amidst ongoing University classes and operations, and will coincide with an event at the John Paul Jones Arena, the parking options available to football fans will be reduced compared to typical Saturday games, particularly in the central Grounds vicinity. However, a variety of parking options will be available to accommodate the 60,000 football fans expected to attend the nationally televised showdown against North Carolina in Scott Stadium, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19.

A simultaneous performance of Disney on Ice at the John Paul Jones Arena, starting at 7 p.m., will bring up to 3,000 additional visitors, parking at the arena. As a result, football parking will be extremely limited around University Hall and unavailable on the arena side of Massie Road.

Thursday’s regular schedule of University classes will limit the football parking available in both the Emmet/Ivy Garage and the Central Grounds garage. Football parking in either garage, as available, will be $10, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Before that time, regular hourly rates will apply.

All other parking options offered this season will be available, starting two hours before the game (5:30 p.m.), rather than the typical three hours before kickoff. First-come first-served free parking is available at the Fontaine Research Park or the North Grounds, a 20- or 30-minute walk to the stadium, respectively. There will be a free shuttle to the stadium from the North Grounds location for those with disabilities. The free parking around University Hall will be extremely limited, but will include an area set aside for RV parking. Due to road closures for the game, there will be no normal University bus service.

First-come first-served pay parking options include the Health System garage ($10), a 20-minute walk from Scott Stadium. The downtown parking garages on Water St. and Market St. offer football parking for $4. Charlottesville Transit Service will offer a round-trip shuttle to and from the stadium, picking up from all regular downtown CTS stops, for $5.

For a summary of these parking options, see the attached map.

Street Closings
At 5:30 p.m. police will close the following roads near the stadium: Alderman Road from Fontaine Avenue to Ivy Road; Stadium Road to Jefferson Park Avenue; and McCormick Road from Emmet St. to Alderman Road. These sections of Alderman and McCormick roads will also be closed after the game until traffic has dispersed.

Traffic Advisory
Automotive and pedestrian traffic will be heavy on Emmet Street, U.S. 29, U.S. 250, University Avenue and all streets adjacent to Scott Stadium and University Hall for approximately two hours before the game and one hour following the game.
