Cristman Named Soccer America, College Soccer News National Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – – Virginia senior forward Adam Cristman has been named the Soccer America and College Soccer News National Player of the Week after registering the first hat trick since 2000 by a Cavalier in leading No. 2 Virginia to a 3-1 win over No. 19 Virginia Tech. Cristman was named Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week earlier this week.

Cristman’s hat trick was the first one in 142 games for Virginia. The last time Virginia had a hat trick was on Sept. 13, 2000 when Sheldon Barnes scored three goals against Northeastern.

The veteran scored the game-winner in the 82nd minute. The senior’s third goal came four minutes later when Ian Holder found Cristman streaking over the middle on the breakaway. He dribbled right and slipped a shot into the left corner of the goal putting the Cavaliers ahead, 3-1.

Cristman answered Virginia’s Tech early score when he headed in a Nico Colaluca corner kick 43 seconds after the Hokies scored their first goal to tie the game, 1-1, at the 57:21 mark.

The Glen Allen, Va., native currently ranks seventh among league players for shots per game (2.80) and is tied for eighth for goals per game (0.41). He is now second on the team with six goals and 16 points. Cristman was the third ACC player to record a hat trick this season. Only Patrick Nyarko of Virginia Tech and Charlie Davies of Boston College had recorded hat tricks this season for the ACC.

The Cavaliers will wrap up their regular season Friday when UVa hosts Wake Forest at 8 p.m. ET at Klockner Stadium. The game will be nationally televised on Fox Soccer Channel.
