CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Virginia women’s lacrosse team opened the competition phase of its 2007 campaign with a series of scrimmages at the annual South of the Border Tournament in Chapel Hill, N. C. today. The Cavaliers had a chance to play its roster, giving the team a good jump start on their preparations for the opener on February 21 vs Virginia Tech.

“The players competed hard,” said Virginia head coach Julie Myers. “It was great to see them out there and for us to see the results of our hard work to this point.”

“It was a great opportunity for us,” said captain Jess Wasilewski. “We have worked hard in the preseason and this was a good chance for us to get some outside competition as we continue to progress forward.”

The Cavaliers continue their 2007 campaign with a home contest against ACC rival Virginia Tech on Feb. 21. The opening draw against the Hokies is at 7 p.m. The game is worth one point in the Commonwealth Challenge, presented by Comcast, the annual all-sports competition between Virginia and Virginia Tech.
