GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia junior tight end Tom Santi (Nashville, Tenn.) has been named to the 2006 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Football Team, the ACC announced on Tuesday.

Santi is one for 37 football players to receive the academic honor and the only Cavalier on the list. To be eligible for consideration, a player must have earned a 3.00 grade-point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.

A first-team All-State honoree last fall, Santi finished second on the team with a career-high 29 receptions for 253 yards and one touchdown and ranked fourth among ACC tight ends in receptions. Santi caught seven passes against Pittsburgh and Western Michigan when he was the team’s leading receiver. Santi is majoring in sociology.

Virginia opens the 2007 season at Wyoming on Sept. 1.
