Charlottesville, Va. – University of Virginia men’s lacrosse coach Dom Starsia has announced a 10-member recruiting class to enter the university for the 2007-08 academic year.

“It gives me great pleasure to announce the 10 student-athletes who will enter UVa in the fall,” said Starsia. “The process of finding the young men who exhibit the qualities of outstanding character and academic and athletic potential is a fascinating one.

“From the traditional hotbeds of Long Island and Maryland, to the reaches of New England, Canada and Pennsylvania, there is a blend of background and ability in the group that will be fun to watch develop. This is a skilled, athletic group of young men who will make a strong, early impression on our program. Fans of Virginia lacrosse will enjoy getting to know each of them.”

The class features five midfielders, a midfielder/attack player, two attackmen, two defensemen and a goalie.

Twins Rhamel and Shamel Bratton are midfielders from Huntington High School in Huntington Station, N.Y. They earned high school All-American honors last season after leading their team to an undefeated state championship. In addition, they are also football and basketball standouts and earned first-team All-Long Island football honors this past fall.

Colin Briggs is a six-foot, 190-pound midfielder from Narragansett, R.I. He is a two-time high school All-American from Bishop Hendricken High School, and earned first-team all-state football honors in the fall.

Chris Clements is a six-foot, 175-pound midfielder from St. Paul’s School in Baltimore. He was an Under Armour All-Star last season and has earned all-league honors in football.

Nick Elsmo is a six-foot, 190-pound midfielder native of Edgewater, Md. He attends the Severn School where he has captained the lacrosse, football and basketball teams. He earned first-team all-state honors in lacrosse last season and has received all-league and all-county accolades on the gridiron.

Adam Ghitelman is a 5-9, 170-pound goalie from Cold Spring Harbor High School in Syosset, N.Y. He has been named a high school All-American the past two seasons and was named Nassau County Player of the Year while leading his team to the state championship last season. He also plays linebacker on the school’s football team.

John Haldy is a 6-3, 195-pound attackman from the Haverford School in Bryn Mawr, Pa. He received high school All-American recognition last year. He also starts on the Haverford’s basketball team.

Garrett Ince is a 6-1, 210-pound midfielder/attackman from Oakville, Ontario, where he played box lacrosse. He attends the Salisbury School in Salisbury, Conn., where he has earned first-team All-Western New England honors the last two seasons. He also plays football and ice hockey.

Matt Lovejoy is a six-foot, 190-pound defenseman from Orford, N.H. He attends Deerfield Academy where he was a high school All-American and first-team All-Western New England selection. Lovejoy is also a standout ice hockey player.

Bray Malphrus is a 6-1, 195-pound defenseman from Georgetown Prep. He earned first-team all-state and all-met honors as a junior last season on the undefeated conference champion squad.

“Predicting the development of a player or a program during the recruitment period involves a mix of wishful thinking and mystical powers,” said Starsia. “However, there is a good chance that this Virginia Class of 2011 will be one of the special ones.”
