Feb. 26, 2007

Virginia lacrosse student-athlete Ashley McCulloch made a big statement in the Virginia-Virginia Tech game on Feb. 21, pulling down a game-high five draw controls and scoring twice and adding five assists. The five assists and five draw controls are all career-highs. Her start in the game was the second consecutive season that she has started in the season-opener. The Virginia native will look to play a second game against an in-state rival on Wednesday Feb. 28 as Virginia hosts Richmond at Klockner Stadium at 7 p.m.

My favorite moment in sports history (personal): Beating Duke in the 2006 ACC Championships.

My favorite moment in sports history (overall): When the USA women’s soccer won the World Cup in 1999 in penalty kicks.

Best lacrosse game I have ever seen: In 2004, UVA men vs. Hopkins in Charlottesville, UVA won by 1 in OT.

Why I play lacrosse….: I play lacrosse because of the fast-pace of the game and it’s exciting.

A brief summary of my early lacrosse history (introduction to the sport, etc): I grew up watching my two older brothers play and my dad got me started in the third grade playing boys lacrosse because girls lacrosse leagues didn’t start until fifth grade.

If I could invite someone to dinner, it would be (and why):Lance Armstrong because of what he has overcome and achieved.

Why Virginia?: It’s close to home and had everything I was looking for: great academics, beautiful campus, great coaches and great teammates.

The most important thing I learned while playing is….. To stay positive and not be hard on yourself after a loss or bad game.
