CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia junior tennis player Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India) was named ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week conference officials announced Monday. Devvarman went 2-0 in both doubles and singles in Virginia’s wins over No. 8 Pepperdine and No. 19 Boise State last week.

In the 6-1 win over defending NCAA Champion Pepperdine, fourth-ranked Devvarman downed No. 15 Andre Begemann 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 1 position. He followed that performance a day later with a 6-0, 5-7, 10-6 win over No. 7 Luke Shields in Virginia’s 7-0 win over the Broncos. In both matches, Devvarman also won in doubles, teaming with Treat Huey (Alexandria, Va.)

The honor was the second of the season for Devvarman and the fourth of the year for a Cavalier. Huey has also been recognized twice this season. Virginia players have won the award three consecutive weeks and four of the past five weeks.

The third-ranked Cavaliers play a pair of doubleheaders this week. On Wednesday, Virginia hosts Old Dominion at 11 a.m. and Maryland at 6 p.m. On Friday, Virginia visits Harvard and Boston College.
