CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Eight members of the Virginia swimming and diving team have been named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming & Diving Academic Team, the league office announced.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must earn a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative average during his or her academic career.

Four members of the men’s squad, including graduate student-athlete Rich Hutton (Leicesershire, U.K.) and third years Ryan Hurley (Potomac, Md.), Pat Mellors (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and PJ Sullivan (Franklin, Mass.), were selected to the All-ACC Academic Team. It is the second honor for Hurley, Mellors and Sullivan and the first career award for Hutton.

Mellors, the 2007 ACC Swimmer of the Year and a first-team All-American, also was named to the second-team ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District III team earlier this year.

Four members of the women’s team also made the list, including fourth years Erin Corgan (Marietta, Ga.), Rory Schmidt (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Jenny Steiner (Lawrenceville, N.J.) and third year Stephanie Glover (Raleigh, N.C.). Glover was named to the team last year when the list made its debut. It was the first career honor for Corgan, Schmidt and Steiner.
