CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia women’s soccer player Nikki Krzysik (Clifton, N.J.) was named ACC Player of the Week, conference officials announced Monday. The junior defender was instrumental in a pair of Cavalier wins last week on both ends of the field.

In addition to helping anchor a Cavalier defense that posted a pair of shutouts, Krzysik also had a goal and two assists last week. In the 4-0 victory over Delaware in the season opener, Krzysik had a pair of assists, matching her career total for her first two seasons combined. On Sunday, she scored her first career goal in the 3-0 win over No. 15 West Virginia, which proved to be the game-winning goal.

The accolade is the first of Krzysik’s career.

Krzysik and the No. 9 ranked Cavaliers (2-0-0) return to action on Friday as they meet No. 13 Stanford at the Santa Clara adidas Classic. Game time is 5 p.m. PT. On Sunday, Virginia will play No. 5 Santa Clara in the final game of the tournament, starting at 1:30 p.m. PT.
